The Biggest Day Amazonian Birding Workshop

 INTRODUCTION

A 14 day tour to Explorer's in which include a 9 module workshop to learn Amazonian birdcalls and identification tricks. Every day just after lunch the first 9 days we shall have a 40 min class, and there will be another class immediately after dinner.  You'll be birding with world experts in Amazonian birding, on day 10 you'd aim for personal Big Day record as you will be paired up with a leader. There will be max 3 people per leader.

On day 12 the leaders will form two teams USA and a Peru, which will compete for the BIGGEST DAY and hopefully break the world record of 342 species. Meanwhile, you will be birding in the area testing your skills acquired during the workshop. You can team up with the other participants and try for different quests. For example make a big day without using any type of motorized vehicle or perhaps most birds SEEN in 24hours or most birds photographed in 24h.

There are over 600 species on the Tambopata list including birds that can be seen near Puerto Maldonado. We calculate that we shall be able to see over 400 species during the the two weeks.  Participants of the workshop shall come out very well prepared why this could will serve as a base for a guiding career in the Neotropics or make one useful for various types of census work in the neotropics. Alternatively, it is a great way to become somewhat more familiar to all the birds in the Peruvian Amazon.

The tour will be run once a year at least. The leaders may vary one year to the other.

This will be a very exciting day. Most teams should be able to get over 300 or at least very near.  Different strategies will be tested. Is it for example worthwhile to start the morning in the canopy tower?

Day 11.  We shall surely be quite tired after the big day the previous day, and we shall need some rest. But it shall be a good idea to check out some of the best records from the previous day. Maybe we can add some new species to be SEEN after concentrating so much on vocalizations. We shall also go through strategies to use for the BIGGEST DAY attempt the next day and the US-Peru challange. The clients meanwhile will form teams on their own. Or plan to visit some additional sites.

Day 12. The leaders will form two teams and compete for the BIGGEST DAY and hopefully break the world record of 342 species.
