Recently the rare and little known White-masked Antbird has been found at San Lorenzo. Accessible by light aircraft from Yurimaguas, there are many rare species. including Black-necked Red-Cotinga and Black Bushbird.

There is still good habitat around the town. Birding here is vital to help conserve this accessible forest.
