Day 1. Puerto Maldonado-Mazuko
Starting out from Puerto Maldonado we may visit close by sites for species mentioned in Birding near Puerto Maldonado day trip, such as Small–billed Tinamou, Brazlian Teal, Southern Lapwing, Black-banded and Grey-breasted Crakes, Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture, White-tailed Kite, Crested Caracara, White-throated and Purus Jacamar, Pheasant Cuckoo, Barred Antshrike, Peruvian Recurvebill, Rusty-margined and Sulphury Flycatchers, Grassland Sparrow, Black-faced Tanager and Red-breasted Blackbird, before we head on to Mazuko for an overnight stay. Near Mazuko the upper tropical forest is in excellent condition. Many special species known from Manu road can be seen quire easy here like Red-billed and Bolivian Tyrannulets, Lanceolated Monklet, Fine-barred Piculet and Black-backed Tody-Tyrant. There are large bamboo patches and palm swamps which should bring species such as Bamboo Antshrike, Manu Antbird, Dot-winged and Ornate Antwren, Fasciated Cuckoo, Sulphury Flycatcher, Purus Jacamar and Point-tailed Palmcreeper.
Day 2. Mazuko-Cusco/Puno
The cloud forest can along the road has produced raptors such as Orange-breasted Falcon, Black-and-White Hawk-Eagle and Solitary Eagle on previous trips and subtropcial species include Fasciated Tiger-Heron, Cinnamon-faced Tyrannulet, Yungas Manakin, White-eared Solitaire, Crimson-mantled Woodpecker, Cock-of-the-Rock and many more. Once in the temperate zone we shall look out for Condors. Any lake we pass will have Giant Coot and Silvery Grebe. If you continue to Puno there is a site for Titicaca Grebe that shall be visited on the way.
